Abstract:

In the context of NEP-2020, the document focuses on the development of values in children, with an emphasis on character building, ethics, and social responsibility. The policy considers the inculcation of moral and emotional intelligence essential to ensure the all-round development of children. The document mentions three major theoretical approaches to value education – cognitive, behavioral, and humanistic – that develop moral understanding, behavior, and intrinsic motivation in children. It suggests several strategies and teaching methods for value development, such as the influence of family and social environment, experiential learning, games, drama, and proper use of digital tools. The document also highlights challenges such as modernity, technological influence, and changes in family structure. Finally, suggestions have been made such as training of teachers, making value education compulsory in the curriculum, and ensuring parental involvement.
