India will complete 100 years of its independence in the year 2047, and education has been accorded a central role in establishing the nation as a developed country. This research paper is based on three main objectives: (1) to study the concept of Viksit Bharat 2047, (2) to analyze the challenges involved in achieving this goal, and (3) to examine the role of teacher education in addressing these challenges. The study reveals that Viksit Bharat 2047 is not limited merely to economic and technological advancement; rather, it also encompasses social justice, cultural consciousness, human resource development, inclusivity, and ethical leadership. By integrating concepts of the Indian Knowledge Tradition—such as holistic education, life-oriented skills, values and ethics, social responsibility, and cultural awareness—into the education system, the goal of a developed India can be realized. However, challenges such as globalization, the digital divide, social inequality, and the erosion of values and culture in the modern education system act as barriers in this path. Teacher education plays a pivotal role in overcoming these challenges. Well-trained teachers can establish a balance between Indian Knowledge Traditions and modern skills among learners through inclusive pedagogy, digital literacy, value- and ethics-based education, and cultural sensitivity. Thus, the study concludes that quality and effective teacher education alone can make the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 practical, sustainable, and holistic.
