The State Women's Commission is a statutory body for the protection of women's rights. The Commission was established in accordance with the Directive Principles of the Constitution of India, such as Articles 14, 15, 16 and Articles 38, 39 etc. The Maharashtra State Women's Commission was established on 25 January 1993. The State Women's Commission in India is a statutory body established to protect women's rights, investigate complaints and provide policy advice to the state governments. Although these commissions have played a significant role in the welfare of women, their effectiveness is hampered by lack of resources, political interference and limitations in implementation. According to a recent parliamentary committee report, there is a need to provide greater autonomy and legal strength to the National and State Women's Commissions. This research paper provides an in-depth review of the objectives, functions and challenges of the commissions.
