New Wave Cinema, Commonly Referred To As Art Film, Art Cinema , Or Samantar Cinema Represents An Alternative Form To Mainstream Commercial Cinema, Emerging Within The Indian Film Industry As A Distinct Branch Or Movement. In India, This New Wave Or Samantar Cinema First Took Root In Bengali Cinema. Bengali Cinema Gifted The Indian Film Industry Internationally Acclaimed Directors Such As Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, And Ritwik Ghatak. The Cinematic Movement That Originated In Bengali Cinema Has Now Evolved Into A Significant Component Of Indian Cinema As A Whole. Between The 1960s And The 1990s, Samantar Cinema Garnered Considerable International Acclaim; However, Over Time, This Genre Gradually Began To Fade Away.
